Guys just wanted to put in my 2 cents as to why I have a problem with a large club:
A several years back we had over 22 members with boater/nonboater ratio of about 12/10 we had problems on several occasions with pairings not contacting each other until just before the tournament and on more than 1 occasion I fished out of a boat that had 3 men in it, because a boater didnt show up, I wasnt the only one that did that.
We always had trouble getting everyone envolved with club activities, fund raisers, boat shows, casting kids etc.
Then members have there "sub-groups" or "cliches" and all the complaing starts about the above mentioned issues, and complaints start coming up about by-laws and who has what copy. Then complaints start about meeting locations, etc etc.
I really like the group of guys we have now but if we increase to around 20 or more I really dont want to be a part of it. If we add 2-4 members and 2-3 of them are boaters then I will probably stay with the club. If it were me I would go find prospective members from Wednesday nighters, most everyone in the current club knows those guys, in fairness to them they should try and be in by October 30 tournament.......
I made it clear before last season I was not fishing and taking the year off due to personal reasons, I will fish the schedule for the upcoming year as best I can. I will keep Mike and Brad informed of my schedule with Elizabeth, which coincides with Bryans work schedule. I think having tournaments as 6-4 sure helps me being able to participate.
I would ask that other members comment on these issues so that we are all on the same page.
